About Cranberry Pond

Cranberry Pond sits in the New York Highlands just north of Paterson, New Jersey, in the belt of small hardwood-ringed ponds that runs along the state line. The terrain here is glacially scoured bedrock and till, the same geology that left hundreds of similar kettle and headwater ponds scattered across the Ramapo highlands. At 79 acres, it is modest by regional standards, small enough to see across but large enough to hold a resident population of bass and panfish that draw anglers up from the Paterson and Passaic County suburbs on weekends.

Development around the pond has stayed light compared to the reservoirs and larger lakes nearby, with a shoreline of roughly two miles mostly wooded rather than built out. That has kept it a quieter draw: a rowboat launch, a handful of cabins, and a mix of local fishermen and hikers passing through on trails that thread the surrounding hills. Its position just over the New York line from Paterson makes it a short-drive escape for a metro area better known for its rivers and mills than for its ponds.

Why we cut this one
Cranberry Pond is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.

Depth chart

Cranberry Pond depth chart, in wood

This is a Cranberry Pond depth chart you can hang: 6 stacked layers of birch, each one a depth contour — 7 ft, 14 ft, 22 ft, 29 ft, 36 ft and deeper, down to the deepest hole at about 43 ft. The lake covers about 0.1 square miles, and 1 shore roads are engraved around it. The shape of the bottom is the real one from published soundings, so anglers recognise their drop-offs and points.

A Cranberry Pond map for the wall — or a gift

Most of these go to a cabin wall, a lake house entry, or a home office; a lot are gifts — the family that has been on Cranberry Pond for three generations, the retirement move, the first boat. The 12-inch is the desk-and-shelf size; the 24- and 30-inch boards read across a room. Add a line under the title and star your place on the shore, and it becomes the map of your Cranberry Pond.

Questions

Cranberry Pond map — the details

How big is the map?

Four sizes: 12, 17, 24 and 30 inches on the long side, from $149. Every size is cut from the same depth data of Cranberry Pond; the bigger boards carry more shoreline roads and place names.

Is it made from real depth data?

Yes. Cranberry Pond is cut layer by layer from published bathymetric soundings — each layer of birch is a depth contour, so the shape of the bottom is the real one, not decorative.

Can I add my own place on it?

Yes. At checkout you can add a line under the title (a family name, a cabin name, a year) and star the spot on the shore that matters to you.

How long does it take?

Made to order in Waterford, Pennsylvania and shipped in 7–10 days; shipping is free in the lower 48.

Can you make a lake that isn't listed?

Any lake in the United States — we hold depth data for 104,419 of them. Search for yours; if it isn't built yet we build it when you order.
