About Lake Oscawana
Lake Oscawana sits in Putnam Valley, in the hill country of Putnam County, New York, about an hour north of New York City. For much of the twentieth century the lake drew summer visitors up from the city, who filled bungalow colonies and small camps along its shore. Those seasonal roots still shape the community today, with a mix of old cottages and newer year-round homes ringing the water.
The lake covers roughly 316 acres with about five miles of shoreline and a modeled maximum depth near 48 feet. It sits within reach of the Taconic State Parkway corridor, a stretch of Putnam County known for small lakes and reservoirs rather than one large body of water. Residents and visitors use it for swimming, fishing, and low-speed boating, with bass and pickerel among the more commonly caught fish.
