About Lily Lake

Lily Lake sits in the hill country a few miles outside Utica, New York, near 43.15° north latitude and 74.56° west longitude. The lake covers about 867 acres and carries roughly 11 miles of shoreline, a long perimeter relative to its area that produces a winding, irregular edge rather than a simple round or oval basin. Depth modeling puts its deepest point at approximately 68 feet, enough to sustain a distinct cold layer through the warmer months even though the lake is shallow compared to larger lakes farther north in the Adirondacks.

The lake's proximity to Utica keeps it within easy reach for a day trip rather than requiring an overnight stay, which has historically made it more of a regional spot than a lake built around a resort economy. Its long, uneven shoreline breaks the water into coves, points, and narrower channels instead of one open expanse, a layout that favors small boats, shoreline fishing, and paddling over wide-open recreation. Lily Lake does not carry a widely documented founding or damming date, and it functions today as a working freshwater lake serving nearby residents rather than as a named tourist destination.

Why we cut this one
Lily Lake is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.

Depth chart

Lily Lake depth chart, in wood

This is a Lily Lake depth chart you can hang: 6 stacked layers of birch, each one a depth contour — 11 ft, 23 ft, 34 ft, 45 ft, 56 ft and deeper, down to the deepest hole at about 68 ft. The lake covers about 1.4 square miles, and 24 shore roads are engraved around it. The shape of the bottom is the real one from published soundings, so anglers recognise their drop-offs and points.

A Lily Lake map for the wall — or a gift

Most of these go to a cabin wall, a lake house entry, or a home office; a lot are gifts — the family that has been on Lily Lake for three generations, the retirement move, the first boat. The 12-inch is the desk-and-shelf size; the 24- and 30-inch boards read across a room. Add a line under the title and star your place on the shore, and it becomes the map of your Lily Lake.

Questions

Lily Lake map — the details

How big is the map?

Four sizes: 12, 17, 24 and 30 inches on the long side, from $149. Every size is cut from the same depth data of Lily Lake; the bigger boards carry more shoreline roads and place names.

Is it made from real depth data?

Yes. Lily Lake is cut layer by layer from published bathymetric soundings — each layer of birch is a depth contour, so the shape of the bottom is the real one, not decorative.

Can I add my own place on it?

Yes. At checkout you can add a line under the title (a family name, a cabin name, a year) and star the spot on the shore that matters to you.

How long does it take?

Made to order in Waterford, Pennsylvania and shipped in 7–10 days; shipping is free in the lower 48.

Can you make a lake that isn't listed?

Any lake in the United States — we hold depth data for 104,419 of them. Search for yours; if it isn't built yet we build it when you order.
