About Long Lake

Long Lake is a fourteen-mile stretch of the Raquette River in Hamilton County, New York, widened by the flat Adirondack terrain into one of the longest lakes in the park rather than dammed into one. The town of Long Lake, settled around 1833 by Joel Plumley of Vermont, runs the length of the shore and is one of the largest towns by land area in the state. The historic Adirondack Hotel still overlooks the water, and the lake has long been a put-in point for canoe routes running north toward the St. Lawrence watershed. Fishing, paddling, and camp life are what the lake is for.

On the board
  • 9 roads engraved around the shore, 0 of them labeled
  • 6 depth layers, each step engraved with its depth in feet
  • Compass rose, title block with coordinates, max depth and area; keyhole hanger on the back
Why we cut this one
Long Lake is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.
