About Otsego Lake
Otsego Lake is a nine-mile glacial lake in central New York whose outlet at Cooperstown is the beginning of the Susquehanna River. It is 168 feet deep and cold enough to hold a native lake trout population; James Fenimore Cooper called it Glimmerglass in the Leatherstocking Tales.
Cooperstown at the south end holds the Baseball Hall of Fame, the Fenimore Art Museum and the Glimmerglass opera festival on the lake's west shore; Springfield at the north end is farmland and the Hyde Hall estate.
