About Pleasure Lake
Pleasure Lake sits in Dutchess County, New York, a few miles outside Poughkeepsie in the mid-Hudson Valley. It covers about 173 acres, with close to three miles of shoreline, small enough that most of the lake stays visible from any point along its edge. Development along the shore is mostly residential, a mix of year-round houses and seasonal camps rather than open public land, the common pattern for lakes this size within easy driving distance of the Hudson River corridor and the towns built up along it.
At a modeled maximum depth of about 56 feet, Pleasure Lake is deep for its size, dropping off quickly from the shoreline rather than shelving out gradually. That depth keeps the water cooler through summer than the shallow ponds nearby, and the lake sees use for swimming, small boats, and fishing off private docks.
