About Wanaksink Lake
Wanaksink Lake sits in the hill country of southeastern New York, a roughly 287-acre body of water ringed almost entirely by private shoreline rather than public frontage. Its shape is narrow and irregular rather than round, with coves and points that stretch its shoreline to nearly four miles despite the modest total acreage. That ratio of edge to area gives it more inlets and hidden coves than a lake of comparable size laid out as a simple oval.
The lake is used mainly by the families and cottages built directly on it, with access controlled by the surrounding property owners rather than a state boat launch or public beach. Modeled depth reaches about 53 feet, deep enough for a small central basin even though much of the perimeter stays shallow near the coves. Traffic on the water leans toward canoes, small sailboats, and fishing skiffs rather than the wake-boat crowds common on larger, road-accessible lakes nearby.
