About Wee Wah Lake
Wee Wah Lake sits in northern Westchester County near Katonah, New York, a hamlet in the town of Bedford. The lake formed when a dam was built across a stream valley in the early twentieth century, originally serving as a water supply source before the surrounding land shifted toward residential and recreational use. At roughly 47 acres, it ranks among the smaller lakes in the region, tucked between wooded hillsides typical of the lower Hudson Highlands.
Today the lake is bordered by private homes and a members-only beach club that has organized swimming, sailing, and boating for area families for decades. Katonah itself grew up around the Harlem Line railroad and later absorbed part of its original village center when the Cross River Reservoir was built nearby, giving the area a mix of old estate properties and commuter households. Wee Wah draws a local, low-key crowd rather than day-trippers, its small size and private access keeping traffic light compared to the larger reservoirs and lakes elsewhere in the county.
