About Lake Carey
Lake Carey is a natural lake in Wyoming County, Pennsylvania, formed where glacial deposits dammed the valley of Billings Mill Brook thousands of years ago, making it one of the larger glacially dammed lakes in the region. A small, ten-foot man-made dam at the outlet raises the water level a bit further, and from there the outflow drops 130 feet over a series of rock-ledge waterfalls on its way to Billings Mill Brook. The lake sits a few miles from Tunkhannock, the Wyoming County seat, and is ringed by a longstanding summer-cottage community organized around the Lake Carey Welfare Association. Fishing and quiet paddling are the local pastimes.
