The lake

About Lake Naomi

Lake Naomi was formed in September 1895, when the Pocono Spring Water Ice Company built a 14-foot dam across Tunkhannock Creek in Tobyhanna Township, Monroe County, to harvest ice and run a resort. Cottages and a bathing beach followed within a few years, and the nearby village, once called Naomi Pines, is now Pocono Pines. In 1963 the Steele family bought 2,600 acres around the lake and built the Lake Naomi Club, a private community now owned by its roughly 1,400 member families. The lake itself covers about 277 acres, with Timber Trails branching off its western end, and sailing is a longstanding tradition there.
