About Lake Nockamixon

Lake Nockamixon is a 1,420-acre reservoir in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, formed by a dam on Tohickon Creek that the state finished in the early 1970s, with the surrounding park opening to the public in December 1973. It reaches 90 feet deep and sits amid rolling farmland near Quakertown, a little more than an hour from Philadelphia. Boating and fishing are popular on the lake, though swimming is not allowed. On selected fall weekends the dam releases extra water downstream on the Tohickon for whitewater paddlers, a scheduled event unlike almost anywhere else in the East.
