The lake

About Sandy Lake

Sandy Lake sits in Sandy Lake Township, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, alongside the borough of Sandy Lake that took its name and was incorporated in 1849. It's a small lake on Sandy Creek in the gently rolling farmland of northwestern Pennsylvania, fished more by neighbors than by visitors from out of the county. A few miles south, the same creek was dammed on a much larger scale to form Lake Wilhelm at Maurice K. Goddard State Park, the area's big-water destination; Sandy Lake itself has stayed the smaller, older water the town grew up around.
