About Arnold Mills Reservoir
Arnold Mills Reservoir sits on Abbott Run in Cumberland, Rhode Island, formed where the stream was dammed to hold back water in the town's northern half. The reservoir takes its name from the Arnold Mills village that grew up nearby, one of several small mill settlements that used the run's flow for power before the area turned residential. The water spreads through wooded, low-lying terrain typical of the Blackstone Valley region.
The reservoir today draws people from Cumberland and neighboring Providence-area towns for freshwater fishing, with bass and panfish drawing anglers to its coves and shoreline. Its shape follows the original stream valley, narrow in places and opening into wider basins, giving it more shoreline relative to its size than a round pond of similar acreage. Homes and wooded lots line much of the perimeter, and the reservoir remains a local, low-key fixture rather than a regional destination.
