About Burke Lake

Burke Lake sits in Fairfax County, Virginia, a few miles south of Fairfax Station, formed when the county dammed a stream to build a water-supply reservoir. Fairfax County Park Authority later took over the site and opened it as Burke Lake Park, keeping the reservoir at the center of a several-hundred-acre park. The lake covers about 151 acres with roughly 4 miles of shoreline, small enough to circle on foot in an afternoon. Its water still comes from the same watershed that once fed county taps.

The lake is stocked and managed for bass, and it regularly draws tournament anglers chasing largemouth in the coves along its edges. Boats are limited to electric motors, so the water stays quiet — canoes, kayaks, and small rental boats out of the park marina outnumber anything with a wake. A paved trail loops the full shoreline, used by runners and dog walkers from Burke, Fairfax Station, and the surrounding Fairfax County suburbs. On weekends the park adds a miniature train and disc golf course to the mix around the water.

Why we cut this one
Burke Lake is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.

Depth chart

Burke Lake depth chart, in wood

This is a Burke Lake depth chart you can hang: 6 stacked layers of birch, each one a depth contour — 5 ft, 11 ft, 16 ft, 21 ft, 27 ft and deeper, down to the deepest hole at about 32 ft. The lake covers about 0.3 square miles, and 13 shore roads are engraved around it. The shape of the bottom is the real one from published soundings, so anglers recognise their drop-offs and points.

A Burke Lake map for the wall — or a gift

Most of these go to a cabin wall, a lake house entry, or a home office; a lot are gifts — the family that has been on Burke Lake for three generations, the retirement move, the first boat. The 12-inch is the desk-and-shelf size; the 24- and 30-inch boards read across a room. Add a line under the title and star your place on the shore, and it becomes the map of your Burke Lake.

Questions

Burke Lake map — the details

How big is the map?

Four sizes: 12, 17, 24 and 30 inches on the long side, from $149. Every size is cut from the same depth data of Burke Lake; the bigger boards carry more shoreline roads and place names.

Is it made from real depth data?

Yes. Burke Lake is cut layer by layer from published bathymetric soundings — each layer of birch is a depth contour, so the shape of the bottom is the real one, not decorative.

Can I add my own place on it?

Yes. At checkout you can add a line under the title (a family name, a cabin name, a year) and star the spot on the shore that matters to you.

How long does it take?

Made to order in Waterford, Pennsylvania and shipped in 7–10 days; shipping is free in the lower 48.

Can you make a lake that isn't listed?

Any lake in the United States — we hold depth data for 104,419 of them. Search for yours; if it isn't built yet we build it when you order.
