The lake

About Lake Chesdin

Lake Chesdin was built by the Appomattox River Water Authority, a partnership of five local governments that dammed the Appomattox River with Brasfield Dam, completed in 1967 and filled by 1968. It covers about 3,100 acres southwest of Petersburg, spanning Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, Prince George and Amelia counties, and remains the water supply for Petersburg, Colonial Heights and much of Chesterfield County. Striped bass, largemouth and crappie fishing are steady draws, and the lake's name blends Chesterfield and Dinwiddie, the two counties that share its main shoreline. Decades of silt have quietly shrunk its original storage capacity.
