The lake
About Wilson Lake
Wilson Lake stretches along the Tennessee River between Florence and Muscle Shoals, Alabama, backed up behind Wilson Dam, which was completed in 1924 and began generating power the following year. The lake covers about 15,500 acres of water between the bluffs. Wilson Dam's lock has a 94-foot lift, the highest single-lift lock east of the Rocky Mountains, and the dam itself predates the Tennessee Valley Authority, which later took it over as the anchor of its whole river system.
