The lake
About Lake Martin
Lake Martin was the largest man-made lake in the world when Martin Dam closed on the Tallapoosa River in 1926. It covers about 44,000 acres with roughly 750 miles of shoreline and unusually clear water for the South, with islands, sloughs and the Chimney Rock cliffs that people jump from every summer.
Alexander City, Dadeville and Eclectic are the lake's towns; Russell Lands and Willow Point, Kowaliga Bridge and the Children's Harbor lighthouse are its landmarks. Hank Williams wrote 'Kaw-Liga' here.
