About Smith Lake
Lewis Smith Lake was created in 1961 by Alabama Power on the Sipsey Fork of the Black Warrior River, about 21,000 acres and 264 feet deep — the deepest lake in the state — with 500 miles of shoreline and unusually clear water. Jasper, Cullman and Double Springs are the nearby towns; the Bankhead National Forest holds the north.

Yes. Smith Lake is cut layer by layer from published bathymetric soundings — each layer of birch is a depth contour, so the shape of the bottom is the real one, not decorative.
