The lake

About Smith Lake

Lewis Smith Lake was created in 1961 by Alabama Power on the Sipsey Fork of the Black Warrior River, about 21,000 acres and 264 feet deep — the deepest lake in the state — with 500 miles of shoreline and unusually clear water. Jasper, Cullman and Double Springs are the nearby towns; the Bankhead National Forest holds the north.
