About Cape Point Campground

Cape Point Campground sits inside Cape Hatteras National Seashore on North Carolina's Outer Banks, managed by the National Park Service. It occupies open, sandy ground just south of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, with the village of Buxton a short drive away for supplies, restaurants, and the ferry docks that connect the Banks to the mainland.

Campers come for the beach itself: unbroken Atlantic frontage, easy walks to the point where converging currents draw surf anglers with rod after rod planted in the sand. Kiteboarders and swimmers work the same stretch of coast, and the lighthouse climb and Buxton's small shops fill the hours between tides.
