About Oregon Inlet Campground

Oregon Inlet Campground sits on a narrow stretch of Cape Hatteras National Seashore, managed by the National Park Service, wedged between the Atlantic Ocean and Pamlico Sound just south of Nags Head. The inlet itself splits Bodie Island from Hatteras Island, one of the few breaks in the Outer Banks' barrier chain. Whalebone Junction and the Bodie Island Lighthouse sit a short drive north, with Manteo across the sound.

Campers come for direct beach access over the dunes and a boat ramp that puts you right into Oregon Inlet, a favorite put-in for the charter fishing fleet chasing marlin and tuna offshore. Surf fishing off the point draws its own crowd, and the marina next door rents rods and sells bait for anyone without a boat. It's an exposed, sandy, wide-open site list — ocean on one side, sound on the other.
