About Plymouth Lake
Plymouth Lake sits in Litchfield County, a few miles northwest of Waterbury, Connecticut, in the town of Plymouth. The area grew around brass and clock manufacturing in the 1800s, industries that drew workers to the Naugatuck Valley towns nearby. Small lakes and ponds throughout this part of Connecticut were often shaped or enlarged for local water supply, milling, or later recreation as the region shifted away from heavy manufacturing.
Today the lake is ringed mostly by houses and camps rather than commercial development, drawing anglers and residents from the surrounding valley towns. Its small size, about 40 acres with roughly a mile of shoreline, keeps it quieter than the larger reservoirs in the region. A maximum depth near 44 feet gives it real cold-water structure despite the modest surface area, the kind of profile that holds fish through summer stratification.
