About Wigwam Reservoir

Wigwam Reservoir sits a few miles from downtown Waterbury, in the hill country where the Naugatuck Valley's mill towns give way to woods and smaller reservoirs. It was built as a public water-supply impoundment on Wigwam Brook, one of several small reservoirs regional water utilities dammed across this part of Connecticut in the early twentieth century to serve growing brass-manufacturing towns downstream. The lake still functions primarily as a drinking-water source rather than a recreation destination.

Because it's a working reservoir, access is limited and gas motors are typically prohibited, which keeps the water quiet compared to nearby recreational lakes. Anglers fish it for stocked trout and warmwater species from shore or electric-motor boats, and the surrounding land is largely undeveloped watershed forest rather than lakefront housing. Its modest size and shallow average depth reflect its purpose: a brook impounded to hold a steady supply, not a resort lake.

Why we cut this one
Wigwam Reservoir is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.

Depth chart

Wigwam Reservoir depth chart, in wood

This is a Wigwam Reservoir depth chart you can hang: 6 stacked layers of birch, each one a depth contour — 4 ft, 8 ft, 13 ft, 17 ft, 21 ft and deeper, down to the deepest hole at about 25 ft. The lake covers about 0.2 square miles. The shape of the bottom is the real one from published soundings, so anglers recognise their drop-offs and points.

A Wigwam Reservoir map for the wall — or a gift

Most of these go to a cabin wall, a lake house entry, or a home office; a lot are gifts — the family that has been on Wigwam Reservoir for three generations, the retirement move, the first boat. The 12-inch is the desk-and-shelf size; the 24- and 30-inch boards read across a room. Add a line under the title and star your place on the shore, and it becomes the map of your Wigwam Reservoir.

Questions

Wigwam Reservoir map — the details

How big is the map?

Four sizes: 12, 17, 24 and 30 inches on the long side, from $149. Every size is cut from the same depth data of Wigwam Reservoir; the bigger boards carry more shoreline roads and place names.

Is it made from real depth data?

Yes. Wigwam Reservoir is cut layer by layer from published bathymetric soundings — each layer of birch is a depth contour, so the shape of the bottom is the real one, not decorative.

Can I add my own place on it?

Yes. At checkout you can add a line under the title (a family name, a cabin name, a year) and star the spot on the shore that matters to you.

How long does it take?

Made to order in Waterford, Pennsylvania and shipped in 7–10 days; shipping is free in the lower 48.

Can you make a lake that isn't listed?

Any lake in the United States — we hold depth data for 104,419 of them. Search for yours; if it isn't built yet we build it when you order.
