About China Lake
China Lake sits in Kennebec County, Maine, split into an eastern basin inside the town of China and a deeper western basin reaching into Vassalboro — about 3,939 acres and 85 feet at its deepest point. The western basin supplies drinking water for Waterville and Winslow, which is why development there has stayed light. It's known locally for some of the best largemouth bass fishing in the state, with tournaments held on the lake most summers.

Is it made from real depth data?
Yes. China Lake is cut layer by layer from published bathymetric soundings — each layer of birch is a depth contour, so the shape of the bottom is the real one, not decorative.
Can I add my own place on it?
Yes. At checkout you can add a line under the title (a family name, a cabin name, a year) and star the spot on the shore that matters to you.
