About Lower Range Pond
Lower Range Pond sits in Poland and Minot, Maine, the southernmost of the three Range Ponds that drain north to south into the Little Androscoggin River. The chain has long served the towns around Lewiston and Auburn as a source of camps and summer cottages, with year-round residents mixed among seasonal ones along its roughly 12 miles of shoreline. Its neighbor, Middle Range Pond, holds the state park; Lower Range Pond has stayed a quieter, mostly residential shoreline by comparison.
At about 850 acres, Lower Range Pond is smaller than Middle Range Pond but holds water deep enough, around 58 feet by modeled estimates, to stay cool through summer and support a mixed warmwater fishery of bass and panfish. Boat traffic is light relative to bigger Maine lakes, and much of the shoreline is lined with docks rather than open beach. Local families have passed camps down through generations, and the pond remains better known to nearby towns than to out-of-state visitors.
