About Pemaquid Pond

Pemaquid Pond sits in Lincoln County, Maine, in the towns of Nobleboro and Jefferson, a few miles inland from the coastal village that shares its name. It is the headwater source of the Pemaquid River, which runs south toward Bristol Mills and the tidal harbor at Pemaquid before reaching the Gulf of Maine. The name comes from an Abenaki word associated with the peninsula, long used by Wabanaki people before English traders and settlers established one of the region's earliest coastal outposts near the river's mouth in the 1600s.

The pond's drainage lies inland from that colonial settlement, in territory that stayed largely wooded and agricultural into the twentieth century, with sawmills and small farms along the Pemaquid River corridor. Camps and cottages built up along its shore over the decades, drawing anglers after smallmouth bass and stocked trout, along with families from nearby Damariscotta and the surrounding midcoast towns. At roughly 1,604 acres with about 19 miles of shoreline, the pond has an irregular, many-armed outline rather than a single open basin, giving it a mix of coves, points, and narrows across its length.

Why we cut this one
Pemaquid Pond is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.

Depth chart

Pemaquid Pond depth chart, in wood

This is a Pemaquid Pond depth chart you can hang: 6 stacked layers of birch, each one a depth contour — 10 ft, 21 ft, 31 ft, 41 ft, 52 ft and deeper, down to the deepest hole at about 62 ft. The lake covers about 2.7 square miles. The shape of the bottom is the real one from published soundings, so anglers recognise their drop-offs and points.

A Pemaquid Pond map for the wall — or a gift

Most of these go to a cabin wall, a lake house entry, or a home office; a lot are gifts — the family that has been on Pemaquid Pond for three generations, the retirement move, the first boat. The 12-inch is the desk-and-shelf size; the 24- and 30-inch boards read across a room. Add a line under the title and star your place on the shore, and it becomes the map of your Pemaquid Pond.

Questions

Pemaquid Pond map — the details

How big is the map?

Four sizes: 12, 17, 24 and 30 inches on the long side, from $149. Every size is cut from the same depth data of Pemaquid Pond; the bigger boards carry more shoreline roads and place names.

Is it made from real depth data?

Yes. Pemaquid Pond is cut layer by layer from published bathymetric soundings — each layer of birch is a depth contour, so the shape of the bottom is the real one, not decorative.

Can I add my own place on it?

Yes. At checkout you can add a line under the title (a family name, a cabin name, a year) and star the spot on the shore that matters to you.

How long does it take?

Made to order in Waterford, Pennsylvania and shipped in 7–10 days; shipping is free in the lower 48.

Can you make a lake that isn't listed?

Any lake in the United States — we hold depth data for 104,419 of them. Search for yours; if it isn't built yet we build it when you order.
