The lake

About Black Lake

Black Lake spans Cheboygan and Presque Isle counties in northern Michigan, covering about 10,130 acres and ranking as the state's seventh-largest inland lake. It has become the center of Michigan's lake sturgeon recovery effort, with a strictly regulated winter spearing season that can close within minutes of the harvest limit being reached, drawing sturgeon researchers and anglers from well beyond the state. Walleye, northern pike and smallmouth bass round out the fishery, and the lake's 18 miles of shoreline feed the broader Cheboygan River watershed to the north.

Why we cut this one

Black Lake is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.
