About Crooked Lake Emmet

Crooked Lake sits in Emmet County, Michigan, near Alanson and Oden, forming the southwesternmost link of the Inland Waterway, a chain of connected lakes and rivers that boats can travel some 40 miles to reach Lake Huron at Cheboygan. It covers about 2,350 acres with 16 miles of shoreline, its convoluted shape left behind by the glacial moraines and kettles of postglacial Lake Nipissing. The Alanson Waterway Locks control its outlet into the Crooked River, and the lake is a popular stop for boaters working their way through the Waterway's locks and channels.

On the board
  • 20 roads engraved around the shore, 7 of them labeled
  • 6 depth layers, each step engraved with its depth in feet
  • Compass rose, title block with coordinates, max depth and area; keyhole hanger on the back
Why we cut this one
Crooked Lake Emmet is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.
