About Dewey Lake
Dewey Lake sits in Berrien County, in the far southwest corner of Michigan, a short drive from Benton Harbor and the Lake Michigan shoreline. The lake covers about 455 acres and holds roughly six miles of shoreline, small enough to cross by boat in minutes but large enough to support a full ring of year-round and seasonal homes. Like most of the small lakes scattered across this part of the state, its basin sits in glacial outwash country shaped by the ice sheets that once covered the region.
The lake is mostly residential, lined with modest cottages and newer houses rather than resorts or commercial docks, and traffic comes from local families more than out-of-state visitors. Its depth, estimated around 52 feet at the deepest point, is enough to hold a cool-water fishery through the summer, and anglers on Dewey Lake typically fish for bass and panfish from small boats and shoreline docks. Access is by a handful of public and private landings rather than a large public launch, which keeps boat traffic light most of the year.
