About Duck Lake
Duck Lake sits in Oakland County, Michigan, a few miles from Pontiac, in a part of the state shaped by retreating glaciers roughly 14,000 years ago. Southeastern Michigan is dense with small lakes left behind by that ice, and Duck Lake is one of them. At about 235 acres with roughly four miles of shoreline, it's mid-sized compared to the county's larger lakes but big enough to support a full ring of year-round and seasonal homes.
The surrounding area, including Pontiac and Waterford Township, grew up around this cluster of lakes as a summer-cottage destination before many of the cabins converted to full-time residences in the second half of the 20th century. Duck Lake's shoreline is almost entirely residential, with private docks rather than public beach frontage. Its depth, about 37 feet at the deepest point, is typical for a glacial lake of its size, giving it distinct warm shallows near shore and a cooler basin that anglers use for bass and panfish.
