About Gun Lake

Gun Lake sits mostly in Barry County, Michigan, with its southwestern tip reaching into Allegan County, covering about 2,680 acres and reaching a maximum depth of 66 feet. The lake takes its name, by local tradition, from firearms lost or hidden nearby by early travelers, and it now shares its shoreline with the Gun Lake Casino, run by the Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians. Yankee Springs State Recreation Area covers much of the surrounding land, and the lake is a popular boating and fishing destination about 25 miles south of Grand Rapids.

On the board
  • 3 roads engraved around the shore, 1 of them labeled
  • 6 depth layers, each step engraved with its depth in feet
  • Compass rose, title block with coordinates, max depth and area; keyhole hanger on the back
Why we cut this one
Gun Lake is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.
