The lake

About Hamlin Lake

Hamlin Lake is the largest artificial lake in Michigan, formed behind a dam on the Sable River within what is now Ludington State Park, with the current concrete dam dating to 1914. The lake covers about 5,350 acres in two connected basins — a deeper lower lake reaching nearly 80 feet and a shallower upper lake — divided by a narrows a few miles north of Ludington. Its position inside a state park known for its Lake Michigan dune trails makes it one of the more scenic paddling and fishing lakes on the west side of the state.
