The lake

About Lake Macatawa

Lake Macatawa is a natural lake in Ottawa County, Michigan, running about six miles through the city of Holland before draining to Lake Michigan at the channel by Holland State Park. It covers roughly 1,700 acres, mostly less than 10 feet deep outside a maintained shipping channel, and its shoreline has been the city's working waterfront since Dutch settlers arrived in the 1840s. Holland's tulip farms and the annual Tulip Time festival sit just inland, and the lake's channel and pier are the gateway to Lake Michigan's beaches beyond.
