About Lake Missaukee

Lake Missaukee is a natural glacial lake in Missaukee County, Michigan, the largest lake in the county at about 1,880 acres, bordering the town of Lake City on its east side. Formed roughly 11,000 years ago as the last ice sheet retreated, the lake is shallow overall, mostly less than 15 feet deep with a maximum around 27 feet, and it feeds into the Muskegon River watershed. Cottages and small resorts line much of the shore, and the lake is a modest, family-oriented counterpart to the busier lakes farther north.

On the board
  • 2 shore towns named, with a star on each
  • 125 roads engraved around the shore, 9 of them labeled
  • 6 depth layers, each step engraved with its depth in feet
  • Compass rose, title block with coordinates, max depth and area; keyhole hanger on the back
Why we cut this one
Lake Missaukee is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.
