About Lake Ovid
Lake Ovid sits inside Sleepy Hollow State Park in Clinton County, Michigan, formed by damming the Little Maple River. The lake and park take their name from the nearby village of Ovid, itself named after Ovid, New York, tracing back to the Roman poet. The reservoir replaced farmland and river bottom, giving the park a central body of water for boating, fishing, and swimming.
The lake draws anglers after walleye, muskellunge, largemouth bass, and panfish, and boaters are held to a no-wake or limited-horsepower rule that keeps the water calm for canoes and kayaks. Sleepy Hollow's campground, beach, and trail network sit along its shoreline, pulling weekend traffic from Lansing, about 20 miles southwest, along with residents of Laingsburg and Ovid. It functions as a park amenity more than a fishing destination, built for day use rather than deep-water sport.
