About Lake St. Helen

Lake St. Helen sits in Roscommon County in Michigan's northern Lower Peninsula, covering about 2,400 acres across three connected basins, most of it less than 10 feet deep with one deeper hole in the third basin reaching around 25 feet. It forms the headwaters of the South Branch of the Au Sable River, a river famous among fly fishermen for miles downstream of here. The small town of St. Helen sits on its shore, and the lake's shallow, weedy water makes it better known for panfish and pike than for depth.

On the board
  • 4 shore towns named, with a star on each
  • 158 roads engraved around the shore, 8 of them labeled
  • 6 depth layers, each step engraved with its depth in feet
  • Compass rose, title block with coordinates, max depth and area; keyhole hanger on the back
Why we cut this one
Lake St. Helen is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.
