About Pine Lake
Pine Lake sits in Oakland County, Michigan, part of a dense cluster of kettle lakes left behind when the last glaciers retreated from the region roughly 12,000 years ago. The ice sheets carved out basins across what's now southeastern Michigan, and many of those basins filled with meltwater and groundwater to become the small, round lakes that dot the county today. Pine Lake is one of them, covering about 353 acres a short drive from downtown Pontiac.
The lake's shoreline runs close to four miles and is lined mostly with year-round and seasonal homes, a pattern typical of Oakland County's residential lakes rather than a resort destination. Boaters, anglers, and swimmers use it through the summer months, and depths reaching about 35 feet keep parts of it fishable for bass and panfish. Its size and location put it within easy reach of the Detroit metro area without the crowds of the larger recreational lakes further north.
