About Strawberry Lake
Strawberry Lake sits in Hamburg Township, Livingston County, Michigan, part of a chain of lakes connected by channels and by the Huron River, including Base Lake, Portage Lake, and Zukey Lake. The chain lets boaters move from lake to lake without a trailer, a pattern of use that shaped the area starting in the early 1900s, when Detroit families began building cottages along these shores rather than farming them.
The lake covers about 363 acres with roughly five miles of shoreline, most of it lined with year-round and seasonal homes rather than public parkland. It runs shallow compared to some of its chain neighbors, which keeps it favored for pontoon boats, swimming, and panfish over the deep-water sport fishing found elsewhere in the chain. Ann Arbor lies about twenty miles south, close enough that the lake has long drawn weekenders alongside its local, township-based population.
