About Upper Long Lake
Upper Long Lake sits in Oakland County, Michigan, part of the dense cluster of small kettle lakes left behind as glacial ice retreated across southeast Michigan roughly 12,000 years ago. The lake covers about 101 acres with roughly 2 miles of shoreline, a modest footprint compared to the larger chains nearby, but typical of the county's tightly packed lake district north of Pontiac.
The lake's basin holds to a maximum depth of about 27 feet, shallow enough that it warms through the summer and supports the panfish and bass populations that draw local anglers. Its shoreline is lined mostly with year-round homes and older cottages, a pattern common across Oakland County lakes that shifted from seasonal getaways to permanent residences over the second half of the 20th century.
