About Voorheis Lake
Voorheis Lake lies in Oakland County, part of the belt of small lakes carved into southeastern Michigan by the retreat of glaciers at the end of the last ice age. At about 213 acres, it is one of many kettle lakes in the area, ringed by year-round and seasonal homes rather than public parkland. It sits a short drive from Pontiac, within the dense cluster of lakes across Independence, Waterford, and White Lake townships that give this part of Oakland County its identity.
The lake covers roughly three miles of shoreline, small enough to cross by canoe in under an hour, and its depth reaches about 30 feet at the deepest point. Development around it is almost entirely residential, docks and small boats lining lots that back up to the water. Like most lakes in this part of Oakland County, it draws boating and fishing rather than large-scale recreation, and stays in local rather than statewide use.
