About Lake of the Ozarks

Lake of the Ozarks was formed in 1931 by Bagnell Dam on the Osage River, built privately by Union Electric and at the time one of the largest man-made lakes in the world. Its serpentine shape — roughly 92 miles end to end with 1,150 miles of shoreline — earned the name 'the Magic Dragon'. The main channel is about 130 feet deep near the dam.

Osage Beach, Lake Ozark, Camdenton and Sunrise Beach line the water; Party Cove, the Bagnell Dam strip and Ha Ha Tonka's castle ruins are the landmarks. There is no federal shoreline, so the lake is built up in a way that few big lakes are.

On the board

  • Compass rose, title block with coordinates, max depth and area; keyhole hanger on the back
Why we cut this one
Lake of the Ozarks is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.
