The lake
About High Rock Lake
High Rock Lake was built in 1927 when Alcoa's High Rock Dam closed on the Yadkin River in the Piedmont, the first and largest of a string of lakes on that stretch of river. It covers about 15,180 acres, shallow by reservoir standards at under 60 feet deep, with wide, stump-filled coves that make it a serious bass fishery. Lexington, Salisbury and Southmont sit along its shore, and the lake has hosted the Bassmaster Classic three times, in 1994, 1995 and 1998.
