The lake

About Jordan Lake

Jordan Lake, officially the B. Everett Jordan Reservoir, was built by the Army Corps of Engineers on the Haw and New Hope rivers, filling gradually between 1973 and 1983 after a destructive 1945 storm pushed Congress toward flood control on the Cape Fear basin. It covers roughly 14,000 acres at normal pool between Cary, Apex and Pittsboro, with a broad, shallow basin under 40 feet deep. The lake supplies drinking water to much of the Triangle and nearly went dry in the 2007 regional drought. Sailing, bass fishing and the eagle population near Ebenezer Church are what draw people out.

Why we cut this one

Jordan Lake is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.
