The lake

About Lake Junaluska

Lake Junaluska was built between 1911 and 1913 when Richland Creek was dammed to create the centerpiece of a new Methodist assembly grounds outside Waynesville, North Carolina. It's small, about 200 acres, ringed by a walking path, a historic auditorium and rows of retreat cottages rather than typical lake homes. The grounds hosted the World Methodist Council's headquarters from the 1950s until 2021, and the lake and its conference center still draw church groups from across the country. Maggie Valley and Clyde are the neighboring towns.
