About Pearly Lake
Pearly Lake sits in southern New Hampshire, a modest 178-acre body of water with about three miles of shoreline circling it. At a modeled maximum depth of 47 feet, it holds more depth than its small footprint suggests, a pocket of water tucked into the hardwood and pine cover typical of the region. Camps and year-round houses share the shoreline, spaced out by the coves and points that break up its outline. It does not turn up on most tourist maps of New Hampshire lakes, staying instead a local water known mainly to the families who own property on it.
The lake draws anglers and paddlers rather than crowds, the kind of water a canoe or small aluminum boat can cover end to end in an afternoon. Its size keeps motorized traffic light, and the 47-foot deep water gives fish somewhere to hold through the summer when shallower ponds nearby warm all the way through. Most people who know Pearly Lake come by word of mouth, through a family camp or a neighbor's invitation, rather than as a planned destination. It functions less as a resort lake than as a small, working piece of the southern New Hampshire lake country, modest in scale but well used by the people around it.
