About Silver Lake
Silver Lake sits in Carroll County, New Hampshire, in the towns of Madison and Silver Lake, part of the kettle-and-outwash country left behind when the last glacier retreated from the region roughly ten thousand years ago. The lake's basin was scooped out by that retreating ice, giving it a rounded shoreline and a sandy bottom rather than the sharp granite edges common to lakes further north in the White Mountains.
The lake covers about 937 acres with roughly seven miles of shoreline, and Silver Lake State Park operates a public beach and picnic grounds on its western side. Cottages and family camps line much of the rest of the shore, many held by the same families for generations, and the water draws swimmers and paddlers more than motorboats, since horsepower limits keep the lake quiet. It sits within easy day-trip range of Portland, Maine, about fifty miles east.

Silver Lake depth chart, in wood
This is a Silver Lake depth chart you can hang: 6 stacked layers of birch, each one a depth contour — 29 ft, 53 ft, 82 ft, 111 ft, 135 ft and deeper, down to the deepest hole at about 164 ft. The lake covers about 1.5 square miles, and 64 shore roads are engraved around it. The shape of the bottom comes from a peer-reviewed bathymetry model of the lake.
A Silver Lake map for the wall — or a gift
Most of these go to a cabin wall, a lake house entry, or a home office; a lot are gifts — the family that has been on Silver Lake for three generations, the retirement move, the first boat. The 12-inch is the desk-and-shelf size; the 24- and 30-inch boards read across a room. Add a line under the title and star your place on the shore, and it becomes the map of your Silver Lake.
Silver Lake map — the details
How big is the map?
Four sizes: 12, 17, 24 and 30 inches on the long side, from $149. Every size is cut from the same depth data of Silver Lake; the bigger boards carry more shoreline roads and place names.
Is it made from real depth data?
Yes — from GLOBathy, a peer-reviewed bathymetry dataset that estimates the bottom of every lake from its shoreline and surrounding terrain. Each layer of birch is a depth contour. Where a lake has a published sounding survey we use that instead, and we are adding surveys lake by lake.
Can I add my own place on it?
Yes. At checkout you can add a line under the title (a family name, a cabin name, a year) and star the spot on the shore that matters to you.
How long does it take?
Made to order in Waterford, Pennsylvania and shipped in 7–10 days; shipping is free in the lower 48.
Can you make a lake that isn't listed?
Any lake in the United States — we hold depth data for 104,419 of them. Search for yours; if it isn't built yet we build it when you order.
