About Swains Lake
Swains Lake sits in southeastern New Hampshire, roughly six miles of shoreline enclosing about 341 acres of water. Modeled depth reaches near 52 feet, modest compared to New Hampshire's larger glacial lakes, but enough to hold a cold-water layer through summer. The lake lies within reach of Manchester, close enough for a weekday evening trip rather than a weekend haul.
Cottages and year-round homes line much of the shore, the mix common to small New Hampshire lakes within commuting distance of a city. Fishing and paddling are the typical uses; the size keeps motorized traffic lighter than on the state's larger lakes. Its shape, long shoreline relative to its acreage, gives it more coves and inlets than a circular lake of the same size would have.
