About Burr Oak Lake

Burr Oak Lake sits behind a dam on Sunday Creek in the hill country of Morgan County, in southeastern Ohio near the town of Glouster and the Wayne National Forest. The reservoir is the centerpiece of Burr Oak State Park, one of Ohio's state park lodges built around an impounded lake rather than a natural one. The surrounding terrain is steep, wooded, and cut by narrow hollows typical of the unglaciated Appalachian Plateau, which gives the lake its long, branching shoreline rather than a simple round basin.

The park draws hikers, anglers, and campers from across southeastern Ohio, with trail mileage connecting into the Wayne National Forest and a lodge and cabins overlooking the water. Fishing families work the coves for bass and panfish, while boaters share the narrow lake with kayaks and canoes launched from the park's ramps. Glouster and the smaller crossroads towns nearby were built on coal and rail, and the state park land reflects that history, reclaimed from the same hills that once fed Appalachian Ohio's mining economy.

Why we cut this one
Burr Oak Lake is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.

Depth chart

Burr Oak Lake depth chart, in wood

This is a Burr Oak Lake depth chart you can hang: 6 stacked layers of birch, each one a depth contour — 7 ft, 15 ft, 22 ft, 30 ft, 37 ft and deeper, down to the deepest hole at about 45 ft. The lake covers about 1.0 square miles, and 66 shore roads are engraved around it. The shape of the bottom is the real one from published soundings, so anglers recognise their drop-offs and points.

A Burr Oak Lake map for the wall — or a gift

Most of these go to a cabin wall, a lake house entry, or a home office; a lot are gifts — the family that has been on Burr Oak Lake for three generations, the retirement move, the first boat. The 12-inch is the desk-and-shelf size; the 24- and 30-inch boards read across a room. Add a line under the title and star your place on the shore, and it becomes the map of your Burr Oak Lake.

Questions

Burr Oak Lake map — the details

How big is the map?

Four sizes: 12, 17, 24 and 30 inches on the long side, from $149. Every size is cut from the same depth data of Burr Oak Lake; the bigger boards carry more shoreline roads and place names.

Is it made from real depth data?

Yes. Burr Oak Lake is cut layer by layer from published bathymetric soundings — each layer of birch is a depth contour, so the shape of the bottom is the real one, not decorative.

Can I add my own place on it?

Yes. At checkout you can add a line under the title (a family name, a cabin name, a year) and star the spot on the shore that matters to you.

How long does it take?

Made to order in Waterford, Pennsylvania and shipped in 7–10 days; shipping is free in the lower 48.

Can you make a lake that isn't listed?

Any lake in the United States — we hold depth data for 104,419 of them. Search for yours; if it isn't built yet we build it when you order.
