About Dale Walborn Reservoir
The reservoir was completed in 1971, formed by a dam across Deer Creek northwest of Alliance, Ohio. Dale Walborn, the city's mayor from 1963 to 1971, initiated the project and the reservoir was named for him. It was built primarily as a water supply for Alliance and sits in Stark County, near Limaville and Canton. Management passed to Stark Parks in 1998 under a lease from the city, and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources took over fisheries management the following year.
At 593 acres with about 11 miles of shoreline, the reservoir is managed as a fishing area by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources' Division of Wildlife, while Stark Parks oversees the surrounding land under a lease from the City of Alliance. It sits northwest of Alliance, with Limaville the nearest crossroads and Canton the closest city. A depth model puts the maximum around 33 feet. Birders track the site as a hotspot, and anglers and paddlers work the coves along its shoreline.
