About Lake Mohawk
Lake Mohawk sits west of Alliance in Stark County, Ohio, formed by a dam on a tributary of the West Branch Nimishillen Creek. It anchors an unincorporated residential community of the same name, built up around the water starting in the mid-20th century as a private lake association rather than a public reservoir. Houses ring nearly the entire shoreline, most with private docks, and the lake functions as the community's shared backyard more than a regional destination.
At roughly 516 acres with about 8 miles of shoreline, the lake is long and irregular rather than round, giving most homes a water view without much open-water distance to cross. It draws bass and panfish anglers, pontoon boats, and swimmers from the surrounding lots, with traffic staying local since access runs through the association rather than a public launch. Canton lies a short drive east, putting the lake within easy commuting range of Stark County's largest city.
