About Nimisila Reservoir
Nimisila Reservoir sits in Summit County, Ohio, a few miles south of Akron, built as a water-supply reservoir along Nimisila Creek. It lies near the Portage Lakes chain and is ringed by Nimisila Reservoir Metro Park, part of the Summit Metro Parks system. The lake is shallow and marshy at its edges, laced with coves and narrow channels rather than one open basin, which gives it a branching, irregular shoreline instead of a simple round shape.
The reservoir allows only electric trolling motors, a rule that keeps it quieter than the gas-powered Portage Lakes nearby and makes it a draw for anglers working the coves for bass, crappie, and bluegill from canoes and kayaks. Akron-area residents use the surrounding park for hiking and birdwatching along the marsh edges. The mix of open water and wetland habitat supports herons and waterfowl, and the park's trails follow the old dikes built to hold the reservoir back.
